ASCIMAT kick-off meeting in Prague (January 2016)

On the 21st of January 2016, the project coordinator, the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Fyzikální ústav ČAV, v.v.i. - FZU) organised the ASCIMAT kick-off meeting in Prague. After a brief presentation of the project and its core activities, the partners discussed a preliminary schedule for the staff exchanges for the first year of the project.

Four FZU researchers will spend four months in CERN working on research sub-topic 1, "Radiation damage and timing characteristics of scintillation materials". In return, three scientists from CERN will make several visits to FZU. The staff exchanges with respect to research sub-topic 2, "Material dimensionality influence and characteristics under different excitation modes", are also well planned. FZU will send several scientists to UCBL-ILM for two and a half months, and will host two and a half months of incoming secondments. As for research sub-topic 3, "Defect influence on the transfer stage of scintillation mechanisms", UNIMIB will host three FZU researchers for four months, and send five researchers to FZU for three months in total.

In order to optimise time and travel budget, the partners will organise staff exchanges, training workshops and summer schools in conjunction with other events, such as the 7th International Symposium on Optical Materials Conference and Crystal Clear Collaboration Meetings.

The partners agreed that the first ASCIMAT Summer School will be held in September 2016 in Italy as a satellite event of the large RAMSES summer school on KIC Materials organised by UNIMIB. The following Summer Schools will be hosted by CERN in 2017, and FZU in 2018.

Finally, the partners agreed on dissemination strategy, and discussed a tentative schedule for the forthcoming outreach activities.
The kick-off meeting was attended by representatives of local media, and later on reported in Akademický bulletin, on radio “Cesky rozhlas plus”, as well as on the website of FZU.
